There are a few different ways to embed a video in Canvas.

This FAQ will go through the basic steps to embed a video in a Canvas page, regardless of whether the video is from YouTube, a streaming video database, or another source.

To embed a video in a Canvas page:

1. Open the Rich Content Editor and look for the "Insert/edit media" symbol as shown below.

2. Clicking on this symbol will result in a pop-up window like this one:

insert edit media general tab

This window displays the "General" tab by default.

To embed a video using the URL:

You may copy and paste the URL of the video you would like to embed in the (1) Source field.

You may resize the video using the (2) Dimensions field.

Check the (3) Constrain proportions box to maintain height and width proportions when resizing the video.

To embed a video using an embed code:

Click on the "Embed" tab and copy and paste the code into the text field.

insert edit media embed tab

When inserting a video with an embed code, the General tab's Source and Dimension fields automatically update according to the embed code content.

To embed a video using Advanced options:

Click on the "Advanced" tab as shown below.

Enter the URL in the (1) Alternative source field. (If a browser doesn't support the initial encoding, alternative source URL's will provide alternate encoding.)

You may also enter an image URL in the (2) Poster field for a custom thumbnail image. If left blank, the first frame of the video will be used as the image.

insert edit media advanced tab

This option is best used if a browser does not support the source video's encoding.

Keep in mind that links from providers like YouTube and Vimeo often link to custom media players and so do not recognize content added to the alternative source and poster fields.

After selecting the best embed option and entering the required information, click on the Ok button and your video should now be embedded in the Rich Text editor.
